The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled a major opioid trafficking network and intercepted a large cache of illicit drugs concealed inside a truck carrying building materials in Taraba State.
According to NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, the breakthrough followed intelligence reports that led operatives to a truck transporting building materials from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Jalingo, Taraba State.

A search conducted at the Nukkai Timber Shade in Jalingo uncovered a massive quantity of drugs hidden beneath the cargo. The agency arrested a 22-year-old suspect, Buhari Abdullahi, in connection with the seizure.
Recovered items included:
- 320,840 capsules of tramadol
- 600 ampoules of pentazocine injection
- 4,500 tablets of rohypnol
- 299 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup
75-Year-Old Among Suspects Arrested
In a separate operation in Ebonyi State, NDLEA operatives arrested 75-year-old Okebe Samuel in Okposi. He was allegedly found with 300 grams of skunk prepared for street-level distribution.
In Imo State, officers raided a known drug hotspot in Umulolo, Orlu, arresting Chioma Okeke, 32, and recovering 8 kilograms of skunk.
Female Drug Dealers Arrested in Edo
A series of raids across Benin City, Edo State, resulted in the arrest of four suspects, including three women.
Those arrested include:
- Chioma Igba (24) and Precious Ozomah (22) at Uyosa, where substances suspected to be skunk, Loud, and methamphetamine were recovered.
- Anita Abraham (21) along Agbor Road with suspected Loud variants.
- Henry Okey (43) at Upper Mission with various psychotropic substances.
More Arrests in Kano and Gombe
In Kano State, NDLEA operatives arrested Saifullahi Lawan (19) in the Kafi area of Madobi. He was allegedly caught with 40 blocks of skunk weighing 38 kilograms.
Meanwhile, in Gombe State, officers intercepted Ugwu Sabastine Ifebuchi (28) near Dantiti Plaza in Tumfure with 15,000 capsules of tramadol.

NDLEA Continues Anti-Drug Campaign
Beyond enforcement operations, the agency said its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign continues nationwide, with sensitization programs held in schools across Oyo, Lagos, Anambra, Kano, and other states.
NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers involved in the operations, praising their commitment to reducing both the supply and demand for illicit drugs.
He reaffirmed the agency’s determination to dismantle drug trafficking networks across the country, regardless of the methods used to conceal narcotics or the age and gender of those involved.
