Media entrepreneur and politician, Dele Momodu, has stated that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar cannot be pressured to step aside from the 2027 presidential race in favour of Labour Party’s Peter Obi.
Momodu made the comment during an appearance on Morning Brief on Channels Television, where he reacted to ongoing talks about possible opposition alliances and joint presidential tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He argued that both Peter Obi and former Kano State governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso should be allowed to freely test their popularity at the polls, insisting that internal party democracy, rather than persuasion or political pressure, should determine candidates.
“It’s good that he will go and test his popularity elsewhere like others also, but you can’t force Atiku out for a man…” Momodu said, adding that no candidate has a guaranteed path to victory at party primaries, which he expects to be open and competitive.

He further noted that Obi had previously cited internal party disputes and litigation concerns as part of his political considerations, but said such issues should not be used to undermine his relevance in the political space.
According to him, political ambition should be settled through transparent competition, with all aspirants given equal opportunity to test their strength ahead of the 2027 elections.
