The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has praised operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) and other officers involved in the successful rescue of relatives of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who were abducted in Ibadan.

The rescued victims, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, regained their freedom following a coordinated police operation carried out on Saturday, June 6, 2026.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, the IGP commended the courage, professionalism, and effectiveness displayed by the operatives during the mission. He noted that their dedication and resilience played a crucial role in ensuring the safe release of the victims.

According to the statement, Mrs. Adegoke and her children were kidnapped at about 7:30 a.m. on June 3, 2026, while she was driving the twins to school in Ibadan.

The rescue operation was the result of sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical efforts by the police, which enabled investigators to track the movements of the kidnappers and confront them at their hideout.

During the operation, two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded, while security operatives recovered two rifles from the scene. The victims were rescued unharmed and have since been placed in safe custody, where they are receiving medical attention and necessary support.

The police also disclosed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped during the operation. Preliminary intelligence suggests that some of the fleeing suspects may have sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation.

The Inspector-General reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to combating violent crimes and ensuring the safety of citizens across the country.
