Episode 1: The Call at Midnight

It started the night we returned from a friend’s burial.

The journey back home had been long and silent. My wife and I were exhausted, both physically and emotionally. Funerals have a way of draining life out of you, and this one felt heavier than most.

Our friend had just buried his wife, Selena.

She had been declared missing weeks earlier, and then suddenly—she was found dead.

Or at least, that was what everyone believed.

By the time we reached home, it was almost midnight.

We barely spoke as we got ready for bed.

Just as sleep began to take over, both our phones rang at the exact same time.

My wife’s phone lit up beside her.

Mine vibrated loudly on the bedside table.

Half asleep, I stretched my hand and silenced both phones.

“Who is calling at this time?” my wife murmured.

“Probably a wrong number,” I said.

We slept again.

The next morning, I checked my call log.

Nothing.

No missed call.

No number.

My wife checked hers too.

Still nothing.

We laughed it off.

Maybe we were just too tired.

Maybe we imagined it.

But the next night, it happened again.

Exactly 12:00 midnight.

Both phones rang at the same time.

This time, we sat up immediately.

Our screens were glowing.

But there was something strange.

There was no caller ID.

Just a blank screen.

I was about to answer when my wife held my hand.

“Leave it,” she whispered.

“We’ll check it in the morning.”

So I silenced the phones again.

Morning came.

Again, there was no record of any call.

No number.

No notification.

Nothing.

My wife frowned.

“Maybe it’s the network,” she said.

But something inside me knew this wasn’t ordinary.

And on the third night, things became even stranger.

To be continued!
