Episode 2: The Last Ride
It was almost 11:40 PM when Mr. Obi called.
“Henry,” he said calmly, “I need you to come to the house.”
His voice sounded different.
Tired.
Heavy.
“Sir, is everything okay?” I asked.
“Yes,” he replied quickly. “Just come.”
When I arrived at their Maitama residence, the gate was already open.
The house looked unusually quiet.
Normally Mrs. Chioma would be outside supervising the security guards or talking to someone on the phone.
But that night… the compound felt empty.
Mr. Obi came out alone.
He carried a small black suitcase.
“Airport,” he said as he entered the back seat.
I noticed something strange immediately.
He didn’t greet me like he usually did.
And his eyes looked… red.
Like he had been crying.
Halfway to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, he suddenly said something that made my heart skip.
“Henry… have you ever driven someone who wasn’t there?”
I laughed awkwardly.
“Sir, what do you mean?”
He looked straight ahead.
“I mean… have you ever felt like someone else was sitting in the car?”
The question sent a strange chill down my spine.
But before I could respond…
The car seat behind me suddenly creaked.
Like someone had just shifted their weight.
I checked the mirror.
Mr. Obi was sitting on the right side.
The left side…
Looked slightly pressed down.
As if someone invisible was sitting there.
To be continued!
