The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Production Services and Rural Development, Saliu Mustapha, has flagged off the distribution of farm inputs worth ₦1.5 billion to thousands of smallholder farmers across Kwara State as part of efforts to enhance agricultural productivity and strengthen food security.

The distribution ceremony, held on Monday in Ilorin, featured the allocation of 5,000 bags of NPK fertiliser, 2,500 bags of urea fertiliser, 1,000 knapsack sprayers, 250 power tillers, and 500 water pump machines to farmers across the senatorial district.

Beneficiaries include members of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN), the Kwara State Association of Fish Farmers, the AMANA Farmers Association of Nigeria, the Nigerian Women for Agricultural Progress, the Nigeria Association of Women in Agriculture, the Agricultural Section of the Kwara State Chamber of Commerce, individual farmers, and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) engaged in farming.
Represented at the event by the Director-General of his constituency office, Alhaji Adebayo Ambali, Senator Mustapha said the intervention underscores his commitment to supporting farmers and strengthening Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
According to him, the programme was designed to provide farmers with timely access to essential inputs needed to improve crop yields, increase food production, and enhance rural livelihoods.

The senator added that the initiative aligns with the agricultural agenda of Bola Tinubu‘s administration, which prioritises increased agricultural productivity as a pathway to achieving national food security.
He urged beneficiaries to make effective use of the fertilisers and farming equipment to maximise productivity during the current farming season, reaffirming his commitment to implementing programmes that improve the welfare and economic well-being of his constituents.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria in Kwara State, Engr. Shuaibu Ajibola Salman, commended Senator Mustapha for leveraging his position as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture to provide sustained support to farmers across the state.
He described the intervention as timely, noting that improved access to quality farm inputs would significantly boost agricultural production and contribute to addressing food insecurity.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, Mallam Soliu Mohammed, praised the senator for consistently including rice farmers in the distribution of agricultural support materials.
He said Senator Mustapha had demonstrated a genuine commitment to agricultural development through regular interventions targeted at improving farmers’ productivity and livelihoods.
The latest distribution marks the sixth phase of Senator Mustapha’s agricultural support programme and is expected to benefit thousands of farmers across the four local government areas of Kwara Central Senatorial District.
