The Oloro-in-Council, in conjunction with the people of Oro Kingdom in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, has stopped a planned Ogboni meeting scheduled for Tuesday, citing serious security concerns in the area.
In a strongly worded statement issued by the Esa of Oro Kingdom, Oloye Samuel Taiye Otunola, the traditional authority warned that allowing such a gathering could aggravate the already fragile security situation in Kwara South. The council declared that the meeting must not hold under any circumstances.
The council further disclosed that both the Kwara State Government and the Kwara State Police Command have expressed opposition to the planned meeting, aligning with concerns over the current security challenges facing the senatorial district.
Adding another layer of controversy, the Ogboni Worldwide body, operating under the Aborigine Traditional Association Inc., has distanced itself from the meeting. In a letter addressed to the Oloro of Oro Kingdom, the association stated that it is not aware of the event and does not recognize the individual or group behind its organisation.
Consequently, the Oloro-in-Council has warned all intending participants to desist immediately, noting that security operatives have been deployed to enforce compliance. It added that anyone who violates the directive will be arrested.
Reassuring residents, the council emphasized its commitment to maintaining peace, law, and order across Oro Kingdom, urging the public to remain calm and law-abiding.
