A chemical engineer, Isa Bello, has accused three police officers of allegedly extorting N155,000 from his younger brother, Abdul Rasheed Isa Bello, on the Abuja–Kaduna Expressway.
According to Bello, his brother, a 400-level Civil Engineering student of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) who is currently undergoing an internship in Abuja, was travelling to Zaria on Tuesday when he was stopped by three police officers near the Kaduna State border.
Bello alleged that the officers ordered his brother out of the vehicle and subjected him to questioning despite his identification as a university student.

He said only one of the officers was wearing a name tag, identifying him as Mohammed Ibrahim.
According to Bello, the officers initially demanded N200,000, but reduced the amount after his brother explained that he was an unemployed intern and could not afford the sum.
Bello claimed the officers allegedly detained his brother until he contacted members of his family, who eventually raised and transferred N155,000 to an account provided by the officers.
He said his brother was released after the payment was made.
Bello subsequently shared details of the alleged incident on X and tagged the Nigeria Police Force and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), calling for an investigation.
He said the family has retained the bank transfer receipt containing the recipient’s details and transaction timestamp, which he believes could assist investigators in establishing what happened.
Bello urged the police authorities to identify the officers deployed to the checkpoint at the time of the incident and investigate the alleged conduct of Mohammed Ibrahim and his colleagues.

He also called for the refund of the N155,000 if the allegation is established.
As of the time of filing this report, there had been no public response from either the FCT Police Command or the Kaduna State Police Command regarding the allegation.
Note: The allegations remain unverified, and the identities or culpability of the officers involved have not been independently established.
