Episode 6: The Midnight Escape

That night, we made a decision.

We were leaving.

Dave pulled out his IV while the night nurses were distracted.

I helped him stand.

He was weak, but determined.

We slowly walked down the hospital corridor.

Every step felt like walking through a nightmare.

Elevator.

Lobby.

Freedom.

We almost made it.

Then the security alarms went off.

Red lights flashed across the hallway.

And Dr. Cross’ voice echoed over the intercom.

“Sarah… please don’t make this difficult.”

Security guards surrounded us.

Dave collapsed to his knees.

I screamed for help, but no one moved.

Dr. Cross approached slowly.

“You had potential to be our greatest success story.”

I looked at him with hatred.

“You destroyed our lives.”

He shook his head calmly.

“No, Sarah.”

Then he said something that chilled me.

“We saved humanity.”

He turned and gestured to the hallway behind him.

Doctors rolled out several hospital beds.

Couples.

All of them connected to machines.

All of them holding hands.

“Your case was just the beginning,” Dr. Cross said.

“Thousands of perfect matches have already been identified.”

My heart sank.

“This program cannot be stopped.”

Dave squeezed my hand weakly.

Then he whispered something I will never forget.

“Maybe not today.”

“But someday someone will expose them.”

I looked at Dr. Cross and made my decision.

“Prepare the operating room,” I said.

His smile returned.

But he didn’t know something.

I had secretly recorded everything.

And if anything happened to me…

The truth would go public.

As the surgery lights turned on above me, I realized something terrifying.

Saving Dave’s life…

Might start a war against the most powerful medical secret in the world.

And I had just become their biggest threat.

To be continued in Season 2.
