Episode 2: The Secret File

I couldn’t sleep that night.

The words kept echoing in my mind.

She’s the reason his kidneys failed.

It made no sense.

Dave’s illness had been called “genetic complications.”

That’s what the doctors told us.

So how could I be responsible?

The next morning, I made an excuse to leave Dave’s room.

I walked straight to the hospital records office.

The receptionist was distracted with a phone call.

That’s when I saw it.

Dave’s file.

Right there on the desk.

My heart pounded as I flipped through the pages.

Blood tests.

Medical history.

Dialysis reports.

Then I saw another file clipped behind it.

A research document.

My name was on it.

And the title read:

“Experimental Compatibility Program – Subject Pair 47.”

My hands started shaking again.

Because according to that document…

Dave and I were never supposed to meet.

The research document explained everything.

Ten years ago, a private medical organization began a secret program.

Their goal?

To study perfect organ compatibility between couples.

They used genetic data from hospital databases, medical insurance forms, and blood donation records.

They created lists of people who were perfect transplant matches.

Then they watched.

Some pairs would meet naturally.

Some would never cross paths.

But sometimes… the program intervened.

I felt sick reading it.

Because one paragraph mentioned something disturbing.

“In certain cases, controlled organ failure may be introduced to trigger transplant conditions.”

My vision blurred.

Controlled organ failure.

That meant someone might have made Dave sick.

On purpose.

And the only reason was…

Because I could save him.

To be continued!
