Voices shouting.

The fiancée — Vanessa — was the last person Daniel expected to show up that day.
She had returned early from visiting her parents.
And now she was standing in the middle of a truth she never imagined.
Amara picked up her bag.
“I’m done,” she said.
Vanessa removed the engagement ring and threw it on the table.
“I hope the lies were worth it.”
I looked at Daniel one last time.
He tried to reach for me.
But I stepped back.
“Some betrayals,” I said quietly,
“don’t deserve forgiveness.”
Then the three of us walked out of the apartment.
Not together.
But free from the same man.
And as the door closed behind us…
Daniel finally understood something.
