Dr. Cross stepped closer.
“You have a choice, Sarah.”
I laughed bitterly.
“A choice? You poisoned my husband.”

“But we also saved him,” he replied.
Then he said something that stunned me.
“If you go through with the surgery, we will erase your records from the program.”
“What does that mean?”
“No more observation. No more interference. You and Dave will live normal lives.”
“And if I refuse?”
Dr. Cross’ expression hardened.
“Dave’s kidneys will fail within weeks.”
The room went silent.
My voice trembled.
“You’re blackmailing me.”
“No,” he said quietly.
“I’m offering you a future.”
I returned to Dave’s room.
He looked at me the moment I walked in.
“You saw them, didn’t you?”
I nodded.
“They admitted everything.”
Dave closed his eyes.
“I thought so.”
“You knew?” I asked.
“I suspected,” he whispered. “But I never believed they would go this far.”
I sat beside him.
“They want me to go through with the transplant.”
Dave shook his head immediately.
“No.”
“But if I don’t, you’ll die.”
His voice cracked.
“Then I die.”
Tears filled my eyes.
“I won’t let them win by taking part in this.”
Dave grabbed my hand.
“Sarah… they already won the moment they controlled our lives.”
