Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has alleged that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is plotting the removal of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, sparking fresh political controversy in the state.

Fayose made the claim in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, stating that the alleged move would begin with the issuance of an official query to the monarch. According to him, the planned action is linked to the Olubadan’s absence at a recent coronation ceremony of high chiefs in Ibadanland.

“I heard reliably that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is plotting the removal of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja. The plot is to commence this week, with Government Query to be issued against the Olubadan, citing his absence at the failed coronation of High Chiefs in Ibadanland two weeks ago, and other allegations,” Fayose wrote.

In the same post, Fayose took a swipe at the governor, describing him as a “sigidi” (statuette) and vowing to monitor developments closely.

The allegation comes amid recent speculation of a disagreement between the state government and the revered traditional institution. However, the Olubadan Palace has firmly dismissed such claims, insisting that there is no rift between Oba Ladoja and Governor Makinde.

In a statement, the palace clarified that the monarch’s absence at the coronation ceremony was not deliberate and should not be misconstrued as a sign of conflict.

“We wish to make it abundantly clear that there is no rift between Kabiyesi and Olori omo oba of Ibadanland,” the statement read.

It further noted that the Olubadan remains in Ibadan, hale and hearty, and continues to perform his traditional responsibilities.

The palace also urged members of the public to disregard unverified reports and rely only on official sources for accurate information.

As of the time of filing this report, the Oyo State Government has not issued any official response to Fayose’s allegations.
