THE ENEMY’S SON – Story By: Florinuke
Adrian Cole was the kind of man mothers warned their daughters about and daughters secretly wanted to meet.
He was handsome, wealthy, confident and dangerously charming.
Women followed him everywhere.
He never stayed with one woman for long.
His father, Victor Cole, was one of the most powerful businessmen in Lagos, and Adrian had grown up believing that money could solve every problem.
Then his older brother died.
Everything changed.
His brother’s death was ruled an accident.
Adrian never believed it.
But before he could investigate, his father gave him one warning.
“Leave the past alone.”
Adrian ignored him.
And that was how he found Nadia.
Nadia had just returned to Nigeria after several years abroad.
She wasn’t interested in wealthy men.
She wasn’t interested in romance.
She had come home for one reason.
Revenge.
Seven years earlier, her father had been accused of stealing millions from the Cole family.
He was arrested.
Before his trial, he died in prison.
Nadia’s mother died months later from heartbreak.
Nadia had spent seven years believing one thing:
The Cole family had destroyed her family.
She had returned to destroy theirs.
She had already infiltrated one of their companies under a false identity.
She was getting closer.
Then Adrian appeared.
Adrian noticed Nadia because she was the only woman who didn’t seem impressed by him.

He flirted.
She ignored him.
He bought her expensive flowers.
She returned them.
He invited her to dinner.
She refused.
One evening he laughed.
“Do you hate me?”
Nadia looked at him.
“I don’t know you well enough to hate you.”
“Then let me give you a reason to know me.”
She smiled.
“That sounds like a threat.”
“It was supposed to sound romantic.”
For the first time in years, Nadia laughed.
And that was Adrian’s mistake.
He fell in love.
Nadia secretly began destroying the Cole family’s business from inside.
She leaked confidential information.
She manipulated contracts.
She turned business partners against Victor.
Nobody suspected her.
Not even Adrian.
But Nadia’s revenge became complicated when she discovered something disturbing.
Her father had not stolen the money.
Someone had framed him.
She searched old documents and found a missing name.
Gabriel Cole.
Adrian’s uncle.
Victor’s younger brother.
Gabriel had disappeared from Nigeria shortly after Nadia’s father’s arrest.
Nadia began investigating.
Then she discovered something even worse.
Her father had been preparing to expose Gabriel before he died.

Adrian finally confessed his feelings.
“I’ve been with dozens of women.”
Nadia looked away.
“But I’ve never wanted one woman to stay.”
She remained silent.
“I want you.”
Nadia’s heart broke.
Because she wanted him too.
But she knew something Adrian didn’t.
She had entered his life intending to destroy his family.
Now she was falling in love with the son.
They began a secret relationship.
For the first time, Nadia experienced the life she had always wanted.
Until she found the photograph.
It showed her father standing beside Adrian’s father.
On the back was written:
“If anything happens to me, Victor knows the truth.”
Nadia froze.
Victor knew.
And he had never told anyone.
Nadia confronted Victor.
“Did you know my father?”
Victor’s face changed.
“Yes.”
“Did he steal your money?”
“No.”
Nadia’s heart stopped.
“Then why did you let him die?”
Victor lowered his eyes.
“Because I was trying to protect my family.”
“From what?”
He finally told her.
Years ago, Gabriel had secretly created a criminal network using the Cole family’s companies.
When Nadia’s father discovered it, Gabriel framed him.
Victor knew his brother was responsible.
But he was afraid.
So he remained silent.
Nadia’s father went to prison.
And died carrying a secret he had never been able to prove.
Nadia hated Victor.
But she hated herself more.
Because she had fallen in love with his son.
Then Gabriel returned.
Older.
Richer.
More dangerous.
He had one goal.
Take control of the Cole empire.
But there was something he didn’t know.
Nadia had discovered the truth.
Gabriel discovered her secret first.
He confronted her.
“I know why you came.”
Nadia froze.
“You wanted revenge.”
He smiled.
“And now you’re in love with my nephew.”
He showed her photographs of Nadia secretly entering restricted company offices.
Adrian saw them.
His world collapsed.
“You used me?”
Nadia cried.
“It started that way.”
Adrian stepped back.
“And when did it stop?”
She whispered:
“When I fell in love with you.”
He walked away.
Gabriel attacked the Cole family.
Victor was kidnapped.
Adrian was framed for financial crimes.
Nadia became the only person who could prove Gabriel’s involvement.
But Adrian no longer trusted her.
She had to choose.
Save the man she loved…
or complete the revenge she had started seven years earlier.
She chose Adrian.
Nadia broke into Gabriel’s private records and found the final evidence.
But Gabriel caught her.
“You ruined everything for a man whose family destroyed yours.”
Nadia looked at him.
“No.”
She smiled through her tears.
“I destroyed revenge because it turned me into someone I didn’t recognize.”
Gabriel raised his gun.
Then Adrian appeared.
A gunshot echoed through the warehouse.
Nadia screamed.
Adrian fell.
Gabriel smiled.
But Adrian wasn’t dead.
The bullet had struck his shoulder.
Police stormed the building.
Gabriel was arrested.
Victor was rescued.
The evidence finally cleared Nadia’s father’s name.
But Adrian refused to see Nadia.
For weeks.
Then one evening, Nadia received a message.
Come to the place where we first met.
She went.
Adrian was waiting.
“I hated you,” he said.
“I know.”
“I wanted to forget you.”
“I know.”
“But I couldn’t.”
Nadia began crying.
Adrian walked toward her.
“You came into my life looking for revenge.”
He took her hand.
“And somehow, you became the reason I stopped wanting revenge against anyone.”
THE FINAL TWIST
Months later, Nadia discovered she was pregnant.
She was terrified.
Not because she didn’t love Adrian.
Because she had discovered one final secret.
Her father had left behind a letter.
It contained a sentence that changed everything:
“Victor Cole did not destroy our family. He tried to protect it. If Nadia ever meets his son, she must not punish the son for the sins of the father.”
Nadia understood why her father had written it.
He had known Adrian was innocent.
He had known that one day Nadia might confuse revenge with justice.
She had nearly done exactly that.
ENDING
One year later, Nadia stood beside Adrian at her father’s grave.
Adrian placed flowers on the tombstone.
“I wish I had known him,” he said.
Nadia held his hand.
“He would have liked you.”
Adrian smiled.
“Even after everything?”
Nadia looked at him.
“Especially after everything.”
Behind them stood the Cole family.
The family Nadia had once sworn to destroy.
The family she had eventually become part of.
She had entered their world carrying revenge.
She left it carrying something far more dangerous.
Love.
Because sometimes the person standing between you and your revenge is the person your heart was waiting for all along.
MORAL
Revenge can give you a reason to live, but it can also blind you to the person you are becoming. Sometimes the hardest thing is not defeating your enemy. It is choosing not to become one.
