There is rising tension in parts of Kaiama Local Government Area following a deadly explosion in Nuku village near the Woro community, where several people are feared killed after a vehicle reportedly ran over an improvised explosive device (IED).
The incident, which occurred on Monday morning, is suspected to have been carried out by bandits who allegedly planted the explosive along the road.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that the vehicle was heading toward Woro when the device suddenly detonated, causing a powerful blast that left only one survivor among the occupants.
Residents say the explosion happened about 200 metres from Woro community—an area still recovering from a previous attack on February 3, which reportedly left nearly 200 people dead and over 170 abducted.

The latest explosion has sparked panic across nearby settlements, with locals describing the impact as devastating. Although the exact number of casualties has not been officially confirmed, community members fear the figures could be significant.
The situation has heightened anxiety across Kwara State, particularly in Kaiama and surrounding communities, where residents are now calling for increased security presence to prevent further attacks.
Efforts to reach the Kwara State Police Command for official confirmation were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
However, the state government has acknowledged the incident. Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, described the explosion as a disturbing development in a region already facing security challenges.
According to him, the explosive device detonated as a vehicle drove over it along a road outside the community.
Also confirming the incident, the Special Assistant on Media to the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government Area, ZulQharnain Shero Musa, stated that the explosion resulted in casualties, although the full extent is yet to be determined.
Community leaders have since urged residents to remain calm as security agencies intensify surveillance in the area.
