The Ogun State Government has approved a ₦50,000 welfare palliative for each of the 3,050 members of the 2026 Batch C, Stream I of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) undergoing their orientation programme in Sagamu.

The intervention, approved by Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration, is aimed at easing the financial burden on young Nigerians amid prevailing economic challenges and improving the welfare of corps members deployed to the state.

The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Sports Development, Wasiu Isiaka, and made available to newsmen in Abeokuta.

According to the statement, the disbursement of the financial support commenced on Monday, with each eligible corps member expected to receive ₦50,000 to help cover personal expenses and other essential needs during the orientation period.

The government explained that the initiative reflects its recognition of the contributions of corps members to national development and its commitment to ensuring their comfort and well-being throughout their service year.

It noted that many corps members leave their families and familiar environments to begin their national service, often facing financial and personal challenges as they adjust to new surroundings and responsibilities.

The statement said the financial assistance was intended to provide relief and make the transition into the service year more manageable.

Ogun Govt Donates 500 Mattresses to NYSC Camp

In addition to the cash palliative, the state government has approved the donation of 500 mattresses to the NYSC orientation camp in Sagamu to improve accommodation and living conditions for corps members.

The government said the intervention had become necessary following an increase in the number of corps members deployed to Ogun State, which has placed additional demands on existing camp facilities and essential amenities.

It explained that the provision of mattresses forms part of broader efforts to strengthen the camp’s capacity and provide a more comfortable and conducive environment for participants during the orientation exercise.

According to the statement, the welfare of corps members remains an important consideration in creating an environment where they can perform their duties effectively and enjoy a rewarding service year.

The government also reiterated its commitment to supporting the NYSC programme and recognizing the role of young Nigerians in promoting national unity, community development and social progress.

Govt Urges Corps Members to Embrace Patriotism

The state government urged the corps members to uphold the core values of discipline, patriotism, tolerance and selfless service throughout their national service.

It encouraged them to take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the NYSC scheme to contribute meaningfully to their host communities and the country at large.

The government expressed the expectation that the financial assistance and improved camp facilities would help corps members settle into their service year more comfortably and enable them to focus on their responsibilities.

The ₦50,000 cash support and the donation of 500 mattresses represent the state government’s latest welfare measures for corps members participating in the orientation programme in Sagamu.

The NYSC scheme remains a key national initiative designed to promote national integration, foster understanding among Nigerians from different backgrounds and encourage young graduates to contribute to the country’s development.
