Tottenham Hotspur have officially appointed Roberto De Zerbi as their new head coach on a long-term contract, subject to work permit approval, ushering in a fresh chapter for the North London club.
The 46-year-old Italian arrives with a growing reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting and progressive managers, known for his attractive, possession-based style of football. His appointment signals Spurs’ intent to build a team capable of both competing at the highest level and entertaining supporters.

Speaking after his appointment, De Zerbi expressed his enthusiasm about the challenge ahead.
“I am delighted to be joining this fantastic football club, which is one of the biggest and most prestigious in the world,” he said. “In all my discussions with the Club’s leadership, their ambition for the future has been clear – to build a team capable of reaching great achievements, and to do that playing a style of football that excites and inspires our supporters.”
The Italian emphasized that his immediate priority will be improving Tottenham’s position in the Premier League standings.
“Our short-term priority is to climb the Premier League table, which will be the complete focus until the final whistle of the last game of the season,” he added. “I’m looking forward to getting out on the training pitch and working with these players to achieve that.”
Tottenham’s Sporting Director, Johan Lange, revealed that De Zerbi had been the club’s primary target.
“Roberto was our number one target for the summer and we are very pleased to be able to bring him in now,” Lange said. “He is one of the most creative and forward-thinking coaches in world football, and brings with him a wealth of experience at the highest level, including in the Premier League.”

De Zerbi began his coaching career in Italy and rose to prominence at Sassuolo, where his attacking philosophy earned widespread praise. He later enjoyed success with Shakhtar Donetsk, winning the Ukrainian Super Cup, before making history at Brighton & Hove Albion by guiding them to their highest-ever Premier League finish and securing European qualification for the first time.
Most recently, he led Marseille to a second-place finish in Ligue 1 during the 2024/25 season, sealing a return to Champions League football.
De Zerbi is expected to take charge immediately as Tottenham prepare for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign, with fans hopeful that his arrival will spark a revival and lay the foundation for long-term success.
