Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports of a strained relationship between him and Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, insisting that both politicians remain close and committed to working together.
Speaking on Saturday during the funeral Mass of the late politician Dan Osi Orbih in Ogbona, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State, Wike described reports of a disagreement between him and Okpebholo as misplaced.
The funeral brought together political associates, dignitaries and other prominent figures who gathered to pay their last respects to Orbih, a former South-South National Vice-Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“There is no problem between me and the governor; we are very close; we work together and we will continue to work together,” Wike said.
The FCT minister’s remarks were aimed at dismissing speculation about a possible rift between the two politicians, reaffirming that their relationship remained cordial.
Wike also expressed appreciation to Governor Okpebholo for receiving Orbih’s remains and visiting the deceased’s residence in Benin City to pay his respects.
Reflecting on the loss of his friend, the minister said seeing the casket made the reality of Orbih’s death more difficult to accept. He urged the bereaved family to remain strong, noting that they needed prayers and support during the painful period.

Okpebholo Urges Leaders to Embrace Selfless Service
Governor Okpebholo, who also addressed mourners at the funeral, called on Nigerians, particularly those holding public offices, to live meaningful lives and use their positions to improve society.
According to the governor, Orbih’s death served as a reminder of life’s uncertainty and the need for individuals to make positive contributions while they are alive.
He noted that wealth, political influence, public office and personal achievements could not alter the inevitability of death.
Okpebholo also thanked Wike for his support and for standing by Orbih’s family during the difficult period.
The governor’s message centred on the importance of selfless service, compassion and leaving behind a positive legacy that would continue to benefit society after one’s lifetime.
Catholic Bishop Calls for Reflection on Life and Death
In his homily, the Catholic Bishop of Auchi Diocese, Most Rev. Gabriel Dunia, urged Nigerians to reflect on the certainty of death and the need to live purposeful lives.
The bishop stressed that death was inevitable, regardless of an individual’s titles, academic qualifications, social standing or accomplishments.
His message encouraged mourners to look beyond material possessions and positions of influence, focusing instead on the values and contributions that define a person’s life.

Political Associates Honour Dan Osi Orbih
The funeral Mass in Ogbona attracted political associates and dignitaries who gathered to honour the memory of Orbih, whose political career included serving as the PDP’s National Vice-Chairman for the South-South region.
The gathering provided an opportunity for friends, associates and members of the political community to celebrate his life and reflect on his contributions.
Wike’s comments at the event also brought attention to his relationship with Governor Okpebholo, as he publicly rejected reports of disagreements between them.
By insisting that both men remained close and would continue to work together, the minister sought to put an end to speculation surrounding their relationship.
The funeral concluded with messages of condolence, reflection and calls for public office holders to embrace service, humility and meaningful contributions to society.
