JOS, Plateau State — The Plateau State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered three locally fabricated firearms in separate operations across the state as part of efforts to curb illegal arms possession and strengthen security.
The command said the operations were carried out through intelligence-led policing and proactive patrols aimed at preventing crime, dismantling criminal networks and protecting communities from security threats.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Sunday.
According to Alabo, one of the suspects, identified as 35-year-old Emmanuel Musa of Dogon Nahawa, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, was arrested on September 17, 2026, by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Team 1, Bukuru.
He explained that Musa was apprehended during a routine patrol along Anguldi-Vom Road, where officers allegedly found him in possession of two locally fabricated firearms — a rifle and a pistol.
The police spokesman said investigations into the case were ongoing, adding that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
In a separate operation, the command arrested another suspect, 27-year-old Daleng Victor, of D.B. Zang Junction, on October 7, 2026.
Alabo said operatives of the Safer Highways Patrol Unit stationed at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, arrested Victor, who was allegedly found in possession of a locally fabricated pistol.
He added that the suspect was being investigated by VCRU Team 3 and would also be charged to court after the investigation.
The two operations resulted in the recovery of three locally fabricated firearms, comprising two firearms recovered from Musa and one from Victor.

Police Commissioner Commends Residents, Reaffirms Security Commitment
The statement quoted the Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, as commending residents for their continued support, cooperation and timely provision of credible information to security operatives.
Faniyan also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for the operational support provided to the command.
The commissioner reassured residents that the police remained committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of communities throughout Plateau State.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station, stressing that effective collaboration between residents and security agencies remained essential to preventing crime and apprehending suspects.
The command further appealed to residents to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in identifying potential threats and preventing criminal activities.
The latest arrests underscore the command’s continued efforts to address the circulation of illegal firearms and strengthen public safety across Plateau State. However, the suspects’ alleged offences remain subject to the outcome of investigations and due legal process.
