The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Salihu Maikasuwa Dangoje, has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will defeat Senator Garba Musa Maidoki of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2027 general elections, predicting a landslide victory for the ruling party in Kebbi South Senatorial District.

Dangoje made the prediction in Zuru while speaking with journalists during a visit by Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, to communities affected by bandit attacks as part of efforts to assess the security situation in the state.

The Speaker attributed the APC’s anticipated electoral success to the projects being executed by the Idris administration, which he said had strengthened the party’s popularity across the senatorial district.

According to him, the APC remains the strongest political party in Kebbi South, comprising the Yauri and Zuru emirates, and is well-positioned to secure overwhelming support from voters in the area.

Dangoje predicted that the party could secure as much as 95 per cent of the votes in the district, expressing particular confidence in its prospects in Sakaba Local Government Area.

“If we are still alive till that time, Sakaba Local Government will vote massively for APC, between 80 and 90 per cent. We are going to win the election,” he said.

He added that the APC’s chances in Kebbi South were bright, insisting that the party would record a decisive victory in the 2027 polls.

“The chances of APC in Kebbi South Senatorial District are very bright, and I want to assure you that APC will win by 95 per cent,” the Speaker stated.

Dangoje also claimed that opposition politicians were defecting to the APC because of the development projects being undertaken by the state government.

Road Projects Boost APC’s Confidence

The Speaker cited the Koko-Mahuta-Dabai Road as one of the major projects he believed would strengthen the APC’s standing in the district.

According to him, the road, which had reportedly been abandoned for many years, was completed under the Idris administration, providing the ruling party with a key development achievement to highlight ahead of the next general elections.

He maintained that the state government’s interventions in infrastructure and other areas had increased public confidence in the APC.

However, the outcome of the 2027 election will ultimately depend on voters’ decisions at the polls.

APC Senatorial Candidate Expresses Confidence

Similarly, the APC’s senatorial candidate for Kebbi South in the 2027 general elections, retired General Jafaru Gejere, expressed optimism about the party’s chances of defeating incumbent Senator Garba Musa Maidoki.

Gejere attributed the APC’s confidence to what he described as the positive impact of Governor Idris’s projects on the lives of residents across the senatorial district.

He said the party expected voters in Kebbi South and other parts of the state to support its candidates in the forthcoming elections.

The retired general also pointed to the large turnout of residents from Zuru Emirate during Governor Idris’s visit, describing it as evidence of public appreciation for the administration’s efforts to deliver democratic dividends to the people.

Governor Plans New Military Bases Amid Insecurity

Beyond the political discussions, Gejere disclosed that Governor Idris had concluded plans to establish military bases in Kaoje, Yauri, Danko-Wasagu and other areas facing security challenges.

He said the proposed bases were part of efforts to strengthen security and address the persistent threat posed by banditry in affected communities.

The governor’s visit provided an opportunity to assess the security situation in the affected areas, where residents have faced concerns over attacks and the safety of their communities.

The proposed military installations, if implemented, are expected to support efforts to improve security across the affected locations.

Kebbi South Ahead of the 2027 Elections

The contest for Kebbi South Senatorial District is expected to attract political attention as parties prepare for the 2027 general elections.

While the APC leadership has expressed confidence in its chances, Senator Maidoki’s position as the incumbent and the strength of competing parties will form part of the political calculations ahead of the polls.

Dangoje’s prediction of a 95 per cent APC victory represents the ruling party’s assessment of its electoral prospects rather than a confirmed outcome.

As preparations for the elections continue, the performance of political parties, public perceptions of governance, security concerns and the choices of eligible voters are likely to influence the contest.
