KADUNA — The Chief of Training (Navy), Rear Admiral Abdulrasheed Haruna, has charged passing-out cadets of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) to uphold democratic values, safeguard Nigeria’s national interests and remain committed to their professional responsibilities as they prepare for commissioning into the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Haruna gave the charge on Wednesday while serving as the Special Guest of Honour at the Beating of the Retreat and prize-giving ceremony held at the RSM Oliver Nzalgana Parade Ground, Afaka, Kaduna State.
According to the Major Academy Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Irabor Njoka, Haruna commended the institution for its commitment to excellence in military training and for producing officers capable of defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He urged the graduating cadets to remain vigilant, disciplined and focused as they transition from training into active military service.

The Navy chief also called on the officers to contribute meaningfully to addressing the evolving security challenges confronting Nigeria and allied nations.
Haruna stressed the importance of discipline, vigilance and unwavering commitment to duty, while reminding the cadets of the constitutional responsibilities attached to their profession.
He urged them to remain faithful to democratic values and protect the nation’s interests as they begin their military careers.
The NDA Commandant, Major General Oluyemi Olatoye, reaffirmed the Academy’s commitment to producing officers who are physically fit, mentally sound and morally upright.
Olatoye urged the graduating cadets to uphold the values and standards acquired during their training, stressing that the discipline and professional principles instilled at the Academy should continue to guide their conduct throughout their careers.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of awards to cadets who distinguished themselves during the 2025/2026 training cycle.
Mogadishu Battalion emerged as the Champion Battalion, having won five trophies, while Collito Company of Ashanti Battalion was named Champion Company.
Individual awards were also presented to cadets who excelled in various areas, including drills, sports, judo, taekwondo and other activities.

The event featured a combat march demonstration and a traditional Beating of the Retreat performance by the combined band, bringing the ceremony to a colourful and ceremonial close.
