AWKA, ANAMBRA — The Anambra State Police Command has commenced enhanced security deployment to schools and other strategic locations across the state as schools resume for the new academic session.
The deployment is part of the Inspector-General of Police’s Safe School Initiative, aimed at strengthening security around educational institutions and ensuring a safe and conducive environment for teaching and learning.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this yesterday, saying the operation was coordinated under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, ACP Harrison Oruruo.
According to him, police personnel, sister security agencies and other relevant stakeholders have been deployed to designated schools and strategic locations across the state.

Ikenga said the exercise is designed not only to provide security but also to sensitise pupils and students on personal safety and security awareness.
He added that officers would assist school children with safe road crossing, particularly during peak periods, while providing other necessary policing services.
The command is also using the operation to strengthen collaboration between the police, school authorities, teachers, parents, guardians, host communities and other stakeholders.

According to the police spokesperson, such collaboration is expected to facilitate the early identification of potential threats, prevent security incidents and ensure prompt responses to emerging security concerns around schools.
Personnel deployed for the exercise have been directed to maintain a high-visibility presence, monitor activities within and around school environments, assist pupils and students during arrival and closing periods, and respond promptly to security concerns.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting children, teachers, school authorities and other members of the school community.
The Commissioner urged school authorities, parents, guardians and students to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, activities or emerging security concerns to the Police or other appropriate security agencies.
The command said the enhanced deployment is expected to continue as part of efforts to ensure the safety of school communities across Anambra State.
