A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will defeat the presidential ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State in the 2027 presidential election.
Jibrin, who represents Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State, made the assertion on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday while discussing the political situation in Kano ahead of the 2027 general election.
The lawmaker’s comments come amid growing political realignments ahead of the election, particularly following the emergence of former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, as the running mate to NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi.
Kwankwaso, a two-term former governor of Kano State, remains a major political figure in the state and has maintained a significant support base through the Kwankwasiyya political movement.
Jibrin, who was previously associated with the Kwankwasiyya movement, said his experience within the political structure gives him and other members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) a strong understanding of its dynamics.
“Who is more Kwankwasiyya than us? We understand the entire dynamics. Seun, if you want me to put a bet, I will put a bet with you, we will deliver Kano for the President, Tinubu, and the President will win in the 2027 election,” he said.
The lawmaker argued that public perception about the level of support for Tinubu in Kano should not be confused with the actual outcome of the election.

According to him, the results of the 2027 election will ultimately provide the clearest indication of the preference of voters in the state.
“Yes, there is always perception, but I keep telling people that what will produce the real picture of what is on ground is the election results,” Jibrin said.
He acknowledged the challenges facing Nigerians but argued that there was no reliable mechanism for determining voters’ actual choices outside an election.
He also claimed that President Tinubu’s support had increased across northern Nigeria.
“The President has never been liked so much as he is being liked in the Northern part of the country,” Jibrin said.
APC Mobilises in Kano
Speaking on the APC’s preparations for the 2027 election, Jibrin said senior political figures in Kano were already working together to strengthen the party ahead of the poll.
He listed Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, the deputy governor, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Senator Bashir Hanga, Senator Kabiru Gaya, former governor Ibrahim Shekarau and the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Abubakar Bichi, among those involved in the party’s political activities.
“In Kano, we are preparing ourselves. The governor is very much on ground and experienced. The deputy governor is extremely experienced, the deputy senate president is there. Senator Hanga is there, Kabiru Gaya is there, Shekarau is there, the chairman, Appropriations Committee, is there (Bichi). We are meeting daily; we understand the dynamics,” he said.
Jibrin had previously expressed confidence that Tinubu would defeat Kwankwaso in Kano, while acknowledging the former governor’s continued political influence and substantial support base in the state.
The 2027 presidential contest is expected to generate intense political activity across northern Nigeria, particularly in Kano, one of the country’s most politically significant states.
With Kwankwaso now on the same presidential ticket as Peter Obi, the political contest in Kano is likely to remain a major focus of the campaigns ahead of the election.
Ultimately, the strength of the competing political structures and the choices made by Kano voters at the ballot box will determine the outcome of the presidential election in the state.
