ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, describing the outcome of the August 15 governorship election as a reflection of the will and confidence of the people of the state.
Governor Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after securing victory across 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas. He defeated his closest rival, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
Reacting to the outcome, President Tinubu said he personally called Adeleke to congratulate him on his electoral victory.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President said Adeleke’s re-election demonstrated the confidence Osun voters have placed in his leadership.

Tinubu wished the governor success in his second term, while urging him to make unity and development a priority as he prepares to continue governing the state.
The President said Adeleke must now bring together residents across political divides and rally them towards growth, stability and social and economic progress.
According to Tinubu, the responsibility of governance extends beyond those who voted for a particular candidate, stressing that the governor must serve all the people of Osun State irrespective of their political choices during the election.
The President also commended the other candidates who participated in the governorship contest, describing their participation as an important contribution to Nigeria’s democratic development.
He said the peaceful conclusion of the election and the emergence of a clear winner represented another demonstration of the resilience of Nigeria’s democratic system.
Tinubu further praised INEC and the security agencies for what he described as a peaceful and transparent electoral process.
He said the outcome of the poll reflects the will of the people and provides reassurance that democracy will continue to flourish in Nigeria.
Adeleke’s victory marks his return for a second term as governor of Osun State following his initial election in 2022. The 2026 contest featured 15 political parties and was closely watched because of its political significance ahead of Nigeria’s broader 2027 political activities.

With the election now concluded, attention is expected to shift towards the governor’s second-term agenda and his ability to translate the electoral mandate into further development, stability and improved socio-economic conditions for the people of Osun State.
