Washington, DC — The White House has revealed ambitious plans for a 250-foot triumphal arch proposed by President Donald Trump, a project that is already drawing attention for its scale, symbolism, and bold design.
Dubbed informally as the “Arc de Trump,” the monument is inspired by France’s iconic Arc de Triomphe and is intended to serve as a grand gateway into the US capital from Arlington National Cemetery. According to renderings released on Friday, the structure would feature gold inscriptions reading “One Nation Under God,” flanked by towering golden eagles and crowned with a winged Lady Liberty. At its base, statues of gold lions would stand guard.
Trump described the proposed monument on social media as “the GREATEST and MOST BEAUTIFUL Triumphal Arch, anywhere in the World,” adding that it would be “a wonderful addition to the Washington DC area for all Americans to enjoy for many decades to come.”
The administration has confirmed that formal plans have been submitted to the Commission of Fine Arts, a federal body responsible for reviewing design proposals in the nation’s capital. The panel is expected to consider the project next week.

If approved, the arch would surpass several of Washington’s most recognizable landmarks in height, including the Lincoln Memorial and even the US Capitol building, marking a dramatic shift in the city’s traditionally restrained architectural style.
White House spokesman Davis Ingle said the monument is intended to honor the sacrifices of American service members. “It will enhance the visitor experience at Arlington National Cemetery for veterans, the families of the fallen and all Americans alike,” he said, calling it a tribute to the nation’s 250-year history.

The White House has not released detailed financing plans, though Trump previously suggested that surplus funds from a proposed White House ballroom — itself currently tied up in legal disputes — could be redirected to support the arch.
