LAGOS, Nigeria — The family of late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has clarified that the recent dismissal of a court case by the Federal High Court in Abuja has no impact on the separate police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.

The clarification came after the Federal High Court, Abuja, dismissed Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/363/2026 on September 25, 2026.

In a statement issued through the family’s legal representative, Ogungbe, the Aloba family explained that the dismissed suit was distinct from the petition it submitted to the Nigeria Police Force and was neither instituted by the family nor filed with its authority or consent.

The family therefore urged members of the public not to interpret the court’s decision as an end to the investigative process initiated following its petition to the Inspector-General of Police.

“The Aloba Family therefore does not wish the public to conflate the dismissal of that suit with the separate investigative process already commenced pursuant to the Family’s petition to the Inspector-General of Police,” the statement said.

Police Investigation Still Ongoing

According to the family, the dismissal of the suit did not terminate or invalidate the police investigation arising from its petition.

The family said it remains fully committed to the process and will continue to cooperate with investigators by providing relevant documents, information, witnesses and other materials that could assist in establishing the facts surrounding Mohbad’s death.

It also called on the police to handle the investigation with diligence, independence and professionalism, stressing the importance of examining all relevant persons and circumstances connected to the case.

Family Rejects Trial by Media

The Aloba family further stressed that it was not attempting to determine the outcome of the investigation through public statements or media campaigns.

The lawyers said the family does not wish to prejudge the investigation or engage in what they described as “trial by media.”

Instead, the family said its objective is to see a credible, comprehensive and transparent investigative process that can establish the facts surrounding the circumstances of Mohbad’s death.

Mohbad’s death in September 2023 generated widespread public attention and calls for investigations into the circumstances surrounding his passing.

The latest statement from the Aloba family indicates that, despite the dismissal of the separate court action, the family considers the police re-investigation to be continuing.

“The re-investigation is ongoing. The Aloba Family remains fully engaged. The pursuit of justice for Mohbad continues,” the statement concluded.

The family’s clarification is expected to help distinguish the September 25 court ruling from the separate investigative process being pursued through its petition to the Inspector-General of Police.
