Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, in Moscow on Friday, with both sides emphasizing the urgent need for de-escalation in the Middle East and a return to diplomatic solutions.
Addressing reporters after the meeting, Lavrov said the discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties as well as pressing international issues, particularly the deteriorating situation in the Middle East. He stressed that both Moscow and Cairo share a common position on the need for “an immediate cessation of hostilities and a return to the political and diplomatic process.”
Lavrov also raised concerns over a draft resolution submitted by Bahrain that is currently under consideration at the United Nations Security Council. The proposal, which relates to the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, could have far-reaching consequences, he warned.
According to the Russian minister, the resolution risks undermining ongoing diplomatic efforts or could be “used to retroactively legitimize the aggression against Iran,” signaling Moscow’s unease over moves that might heighten tensions in the region.

For his part, Egyptian Foreign Minister Abdelatty underscored the broader impact of continued conflict, warning that instability is taking a toll on all parties involved.
“Everyone is losing, the world is losing and the region is losing,” Abdelatty said, stressing the importance of prioritizing negotiations and peaceful resolution mechanisms.

The talks reflect growing international concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly involving Iran and key maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery for global energy supplies.
