The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State has finalized plans to receive Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of a high-profile event to formally welcome Governor Dauda Lawal into the party.
The announcement was made by the state APC chairman, Tukur Danfulani Maikatako, during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Gusau on Saturday.
Maikatako expressed excitement over the governor’s defection, describing it as a significant political development for the party in the state. He revealed that Vice President Shettima, alongside members of the APC national leadership, will be in Zamfara on Tuesday for a grand reception in honor of Governor Lawal.
“We all know that Zamfara has long been a stronghold of the APC, and the governor was once a bonafide member. Now, he has decided to return home after reassessing his political journey,” Maikatako said.
The chairman also called on party members across the state’s 147 wards and 14 local government areas to turn out in large numbers to welcome the Vice President and celebrate the governor’s return. He emphasized that the event is crucial in strengthening the party’s unity and boosting its popularity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In his remarks, former state APC chairman, Lawali Liman, urged members to spread the message of unity across their communities, stressing that the APC remains one family with shared goals.

Maikatako further appealed to party loyalists to set aside internal differences and work together for the progress of the party and the development of both Zamfara State and Nigeria at large.
