Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has assured residents displaced by bandit attacks in Sakaba Local Government Area and other parts of the Zuru Emirate that his administration is committed to returning them safely to their ancestral homes.
The governor gave the assurance during a condolence visit to the Chief of Sakaba and affected residents following recent bandit attacks that forced several people to flee their communities.
Idris expressed sympathy for the victims and reiterated his administration’s commitment to addressing the security challenges confronting the state.
According to the governor, his visit was not politically motivated but intended to demonstrate solidarity with residents affected by the attacks and reassure them of the government’s concern for their welfare and safety.
“We are not here for politics. We are here to sympathize with you over the recent bandit attack,” he said.
The governor acknowledged that insecurity remained a challenge in different parts of Nigeria but maintained that his administration was taking measures to protect lives and property across Kebbi State.
He stressed that Sakaba remained important to his government, assuring residents that efforts would continue towards restoring security and enabling displaced families to return to their communities.

Governor Calls for Peaceful Coexistence
Beyond the security situation, Idris urged residents to seek divine intervention, promote peaceful coexistence and avoid actions capable of escalating political tensions within their communities.
He specifically appealed to political supporters to refrain from hostility, including the destruction of campaign posters, emphasising the importance of maintaining peace despite political differences.
The governor also responded to critics questioning his prospects for a second term in office. He referenced the eight-year tenures of previous governors and questioned why his own tenure should be treated differently.
His remarks come amid growing attention to security concerns and political activities ahead of Nigeria’s next general elections.
Kebbi Assembly Speaker Raises Security Concerns
Also speaking during the visit, the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Salihu Maikasuwa-Dangoje, thanked Governor Idris for supporting his election.
However, the Speaker expressed concern over renewed security breaches in the state, particularly as political activities gather momentum ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
His remarks underscored concerns about the potential impact of insecurity on residents and the wider political environment.

Government Reaffirms Commitment to Security
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Internal Security, Haliru Wasagu, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property throughout Kebbi State.
The governor’s pledge to facilitate the return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) highlights the importance of restoring security, rebuilding confidence among affected communities and creating conditions that will allow residents to resume their normal lives.
For displaced families in Sakaba and the wider Zuru Emirate, the prospect of returning home will depend on sustained security improvements and the availability of conditions that make their communities safe for resettlement.
The situation remains a significant concern for residents affected by banditry, as the state government faces continued pressure to protect vulnerable communities and restore lasting peace across the affected areas.
