IMO STATE — Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has commended security agencies for their swift and coordinated efforts that led to the safe rescue of 20 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were kidnapped along the Onitsha-Owerri Road.
The corps members were reportedly abducted a few days ago while travelling along the major highway, prompting security agencies and relevant authorities to intensify efforts to secure their release.
Governor Uzodimma, in a statement personally signed by him, expressed satisfaction with the successful operation and praised the security agencies for their collaboration, patriotism and commitment to ensuring that the victims were rescued unharmed.

The governor also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the Imo and Oyo State Governments, describing their cooperation as crucial to the quick resolution of the situation.
According to him, the sensitive nature of the incident required authorities to exercise caution in releasing information to the public while efforts were ongoing to secure the safe return of the abducted corps members.
He explained that the government deliberately adopted a discreet approach because the priority was to protect the lives of the victims and avoid any action that could jeopardise the rescue operation.
Uzodimma expressed particular appreciation to the security agencies for the manner in which they handled the situation, noting that their coordinated efforts ultimately contributed to the safe release of all 20 captives.
The governor also commended the parents and families of the corps members for their patience and understanding throughout what he described as a difficult and trying period.
He urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and have faith in the efforts of the Federal Government and security agencies as authorities continue to confront the country’s security challenges.
The successful rescue of the corps members comes amid continuing concerns over the safety of travellers and young Nigerians serving their country under the NYSC scheme.
Governor Uzodimma reiterated the importance of collaboration among governments, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders in addressing security threats and protecting the lives of citizens.
