Nollywood actress Moyo Lawal has fired back at an online critic who accused her of overstaying her relevance in the entertainment industry and urged her to retire to make room for younger actresses.
The controversy began after an X user, identified as @guzu_P, took a swipe at the actress, describing her in derogatory terms and claiming that she had passed her prime but was refusing to leave the industry for upcoming talents.
The comment did not sit well with Lawal, who responded sharply while defending both her career journey and personal choices.
In her response, the actress suggested that the criticism was partly motivated by her physical appearance and her decision to leave a past relationship.

She wrote: “Your reason for typing this nonsense is because I look amazing. It’s also because I left a man whose feeble brain could not stand losing me and tried to destroy me at a time?”
Lawal also rejected the insinuation that she built her career through sexual relationships, explaining that she entered the entertainment industry through television and secured subsequent opportunities through auditions.
“Industry? Uncle, I came from TV, my first job was with a married couple. My jobs after that were obtained through mass auditioning and I mainly worked with female producers… me and sleeping around has absolutely nothing in common,” she said.
The actress further questioned the stereotype that an attractive woman who is unmarried must necessarily be sexually involved with multiple men.
“So, a sexy woman who is not married is automatically sleeping around? lol ask about me,” she added.
Lawal also addressed speculation about the number of romantic partners she may have had, insisting that her private life does not match the assumptions being made about her.
“I am positive, I have not even had as many partners as your current partner whatever age the person may be,” she stated.
‘I Usually Ignore Such Rants’
In another post, the actress explained that she normally chooses not to respond to comments attacking her, but said the particular criticism prompted her to speak out because of the sacrifices she has made throughout her career.
According to Lawal, she has invested years of hard work, describing it as “sweat, blood and tears,” while maintaining a private life that she believes should not be used as a basis for judging her professional achievements.

Her comments have reignited conversations around the scrutiny female celebrities face over their appearance, age, relationships and personal choices.
For Lawal, however, the criticism appears to have reinforced her decision to defend the career she has built and challenge assumptions about how women in the entertainment industry should conduct their personal lives.
The actress has remained active in Nollywood and on social media, where she frequently engages with issues surrounding her career, public image and the attention generated by her personal life.
