The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won four of the five legislative bye-elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) across Delta, Kano, Bauchi and Gombe states.
The elections, held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, comprised one House of Representatives constituency and four State House of Assembly constituencies.
The APC secured victories in Gombe, Kano, Delta and one of the two constituencies contested in Bauchi, while the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) won the remaining seat in Bauchi.
APC Wins Udu Constituency in Delta
In Delta State, APC candidate Okolosi Ator emerged victorious in the Udu State Constituency bye-election.
Okolosi polled 8,724 votes to defeat his closest rival, George Orugbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who recorded 214 votes. The APM candidate, Omovie Esther, secured 33 votes, according to the reported results.

Datti Wins in Kano
In Kano State, Husseini Datti of the APC won the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency bye-election with 22,890 votes.
The result placed Datti ahead of the other candidates in the contest. The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) recorded 270 votes, while the PDP polled 108 votes, according to reports of the announced results.

APC Takes Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency
The APC also secured the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency seat in Gombe State, where Kallamu Usman MaiJama’a emerged victorious.
Kallamu polled 41,121 votes to win the House of Representatives bye-election.
The Labour Party recorded 3,553 votes, while the Allied Peoples Movement scored 872 votes. Reports said a total of 47,301 votes were cast, with 46,551 declared valid and 750 rejected.
The election was conducted to fill the vacant federal constituency seat following the death of the former representative, Hon. Yaya Bauchi Tongo.
APC and APM Share Bauchi Seats
The two State House of Assembly bye-elections in Bauchi State produced victories for both the APC and APM.
In Disina State Constituency, APC candidate Yakubu Ali won with 5,846 votes, defeating the APM candidate, who polled 5,225 votes.

However, the APM secured the Sakwa State Constituency seat in Zaki Local Government Area.
Its candidate, Adamu Yakubu, polled 8,515 votes to defeat the APC candidate, who recorded 3,771 votes. The PDP scored 2,076 votes, while the PRP polled 727 votes.
The Sakwa seat became vacant following the death of the former lawmaker, Hon. Mohammad Wanzam Zaki, while the Disina seat became vacant after the incumbent resigned to contest a local government chairmanship election.
Yilwatda Congratulates APC Winners
Reacting to the outcome, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, congratulated the party’s four successful candidates.
Yilwatda named the winners as Kallamu Usman MaiJama’a of Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency, Husseini Datti of Dawakin Kudu State Constituency, Okolosi Ator of Udu State Constituency and Yakubu Ali of Disina State Constituency.
The APC chairman also commended INEC, security agencies, party officials, campaign teams and voters for their roles in the electoral process.
He urged the victorious candidates to regard their victories as a responsibility to serve their constituents.
Keyamo Links Results to 2027 Elections
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, also reacted to the results, drawing attention to the geographical spread of the APC victories.
Keyamo noted that the party won seats in the North-West, North-East and South-South regions, specifically in Kano, Bauchi, Gombe and Delta.
He argued that the geographical distribution of the victories was noteworthy as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.
However, the bye-election results cover only the five constituencies contested and should not by themselves be treated as a direct measure of nationwide voter preferences. INEC’s current calendar lists the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, followed by governorship and State House of Assembly elections on February 6, 2027.

The outcome gives the APC four victories out of the five seats contested in the September 19 bye-elections, while the APM’s victory in Sakwa provided the only seat outside the ruling party’s column.
