The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man identified as Mosuru Issa, who it described as a suspected vehicle theft kingpin, and recovered a stolen wine-coloured Toyota Camry along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Issa, a resident of Osungboye Street, Agege, Lagos State, was arrested by operatives of the Mowe Divisional Police Headquarters during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Mowe axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to the police, the incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on Friday, when three occupants of the vehicle allegedly abandoned the car and fled after sighting police operatives.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the suspicious behaviour of the occupants prompted the officers to give chase.
“Three occupants, on sighting the police, suddenly abandoned the vehicle and fled in different directions, raising suspicion,” the statement said.
The police said the operatives pursued the fleeing occupants, resulting in the arrest of Issa, while the abandoned Toyota Camry was secured and recovered.

Vehicle Reportedly Stolen in Ojoo
Preliminary investigation conducted by the police reportedly revealed that the vehicle had been stolen on September 7, 2026, after it was parked in Ojoo, Lagos State.
The command said efforts were ongoing to identify and locate the vehicle’s owner, while operatives were also working to apprehend the two other occupants who escaped from the scene.

The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
Police Commissioner Commends Operatives
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the operation for their vigilance and swift response.
According to the police statement, Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing and sustained security operations aimed at protecting lives and property across Ogun State.
He also stressed the need to disrupt vehicle theft, highway crime and other criminal activities across the state.
The command said the recovery of the stolen vehicle demonstrated the importance of routine patrols, proactive policing and lawful stop-and-search operations in detecting criminal activities and recovering stolen property.
Police Warn Criminals
The Ogun State Police Command warned criminals against using the state’s highways as escape routes, assuring residents that security operations would be intensified across the state.

The command also advised vehicle owners to take additional precautions when parking in public or unsecured locations.
Among the measures recommended by the police are the use of tyre locks, steering locks and other appropriate anti-theft devices.
The arrested suspect remains in police custody as investigators continue efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged vehicle theft and track down the two other suspects who escaped.
