OWERRI, IMO STATE — Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has appealed to voters in the South-East to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for re-election in the 2027 presidential election.
Mrs. Tinubu made the appeal on Wednesday in Owerri, the Imo State capital, during her official visit to the South-East as part of an empowerment programme for women.
The First Lady said she was committed to seeing a better Nigeria, stressing that both she and the President were working towards improving the country for the benefit of Nigerians.
“Make una vote for Mr President, we go work for una and Nigeria go better,” she said.

“I want to enjoy Nigeria at old age, so I will work for Nigeria, for my old age.”
The empowerment programme, according to the First Lady, is being implemented through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs.
She disclosed that the initiative would benefit 18,500 women across the country when fully implemented.
In the South-East, 500 women from each of the five states are expected to benefit from the programme. The beneficiaries are to receive various items to support and expand their businesses, including generators, industrial grinding machines, gas cylinders and ovens.
Mrs. Tinubu, however, disclosed that Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, had provided additional empowerment items for 2,000 women in the state.
The gesture brings the total number of beneficiaries in Imo State to 2,500 women.
In response to the governor’s intervention, the First Lady announced an additional N100,000 cash support for each beneficiary of the empowerment programme.
She explained that the initiative was designed to recognise the important role women play in nation-building, economic development and the welfare of their families.
According to her, the programme is also aligned with the administration’s agenda of promoting economic growth and sustainable development, particularly through the empowerment of women.

Mrs. Tinubu urged the beneficiaries to make prudent use of the resources provided to them, saying the support should serve as a foundation for improving their livelihoods and creating better opportunities for their families.
“Let it serve as a foundation for creating a better life for you and your family,” she said.
Uzodimma Backs Tinubu
Speaking at the event, Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, commended the First Lady for her contributions to nation-building and her commitment to the welfare and empowerment of Nigerians.
The governor said the people of Imo State appreciated what he described as the achievements of the Tinubu administration, particularly its infrastructural and developmental interventions in the state.
Uzodimma said Imo residents were pleased with the President’s performance and expressed confidence that the state would support his re-election bid in 2027.
“Let him know that Imo people are happy with him, that we are happy with his performance. Let him know that he is doing very well, that we stand with him and that we deeply appreciate his resolute commitment to a stronger, more prosperous, safer and more united Nigeria,” the governor said.
He further pledged the support of the people of Imo State for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“I assure you that we will reciprocate this love. We will stand firmly behind our beloved President in January 2027. We will speak with one united, unequivocal voice to stand by those who have consistently stood by us,” Uzodimma said.
The First Lady’s visit also featured a traditional recognition, as the traditional institution in Imo State conferred on her the chieftaincy title of Osodieme.
The event brought together government officials, traditional leaders, women beneficiaries and other stakeholders, with discussions centred on women’s economic empowerment, sustainable development and the political future of the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.
