Jos, Plateau State — The Plateau State Government has made the use of face masks compulsory for passengers travelling on TinCity Metro buses as part of measures to contain the spread of diphtheria in the state.
The directive, announced by the management of Plateau Express Services Group on Monday, introduces a “No Face Mask, No Entry” policy, which will take effect from Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and remain in force until further notice.
According to the transport company, the measure is part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to curb the diphtheria outbreak and protect commuters who use public transportation.
Under the new policy, passengers without face masks will not be permitted to board TinCity Metro buses.

Management urged commuters to comply with the directive and cooperate with personnel responsible for enforcing the policy, stressing that the measure was necessary to help reduce the risk of transmission in crowded public spaces.
To ease the initial implementation of the policy, the management said a limited number of face masks had been provided at designated boarding points for passengers.
It, however, advised commuters to make adequate preparations and come with their own face masks, warning that the available supplies might not be enough to meet the needs of all passengers.
“Passengers are strongly advised to come along with their own face masks, as the available supply is limited and may not be sufficient for all commuters,” the management said.
The transport company also appealed to passengers to cooperate with the new safety measure, noting that containing public health outbreaks requires collective responsibility.
It assured commuters that it remained committed to providing a safer public transportation environment while supporting efforts to protect residents from the spread of diphtheria.
The management expressed appreciation to passengers for their understanding and cooperation as the “No Face Mask, No Entry” policy comes into effect across TinCity Metro services.
