Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, will be laid to rest in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, August 24, 2026, barely 24 hours after his death.
Veteran Nollywood actor and Yoruba movie icon, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, will be buried on Monday, August 24, in Ilaro, Ogun State, following Islamic burial rites.
The actor died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, with veteran actor Jide Kosoko announcing that he passed away at about 3:00 p.m.
According to the burial arrangements announced following his death, Ogogo’s remains will be taken to his hometown, Ilaro, where his lying-in-state ceremony will take place on Monday.
The family’s announcement gave the time for the ceremony as 11:00 a.m. at the Pavilion in Ilaro.
Separately, the Ilaro Muslim Community announced that the Janazah (burial) prayer for the late actor would take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground, Ilaro.
The announcement was issued by the Chief Imam of Ilaro and shared publicly by Seun Oloketuyi, founder of the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards.

The development means the veteran actor will be laid to rest less than a day after his death, in accordance with Islamic burial practices.
Ogogo’s Battle With Cancer
Ogogo’s death came after a reported battle with stage-four cancer.
Days before his death, members of his family had appealed publicly for medical assistance after revealing the severity of his condition. Reports indicated that his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, had sought medical advice and assistance for their father.
Kaira had reportedly disclosed that doctors informed the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of the advanced stage of the illness.
The actor’s death was subsequently confirmed on Sunday, bringing an end to the life and career of one of the most recognisable figures in Yoruba-language cinema.
