Abuja, Nigeria – Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr. Paul Enenche, has stirred fresh conversations about the influence of contemporary music on society after criticizing some Afrobeats musicians for what he described as promoting immoral content that negatively affects young people.
Speaking during a recent church service, the outspoken cleric lamented that many secular artistes have abandoned positive values in favour of songs that glorify immorality, violence, and other social vices. He argued that such music is contributing to the moral decline among Nigerian youths.
According to Enenche, many musicians have been blessed with exceptional talents but have chosen to use their gifts in ways that encourage ungodly behaviour rather than inspire positive change.
He maintained that music is a powerful tool capable of shaping the thoughts and actions of listeners, stressing that artistes should embrace their social responsibility by producing content that promotes discipline, integrity, and hope.
The pastor further warned that those who deliberately use their talents to spread messages that encourage sinful lifestyles would ultimately be accountable for the impact of their work on society. He urged musicians to redirect their creativity toward uplifting humanity instead of promoting values that erode moral standards.
Enenche’s comments have since generated mixed reactions on social media. While many supporters agreed with his concerns over the lyrical content of some Afrobeats songs, others argued that the genre should not be judged as a whole, noting that several Afrobeats artistes produce inspirational and socially conscious music.
