Brigadier-General Oseni Braimah, who was killed by terrorists in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, has been laid to rest amid grief and solemn tributes.

The Nigerian Army announced that the burial ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, describing the occasion as one “marked by deep sorrow, honour and reflection.”

Top government and military officials were in attendance to pay their last respects to the fallen senior officer. Among them were Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant-General Olufemi Oluyede, Waidi Shaibu, alongside other high-ranking military officers.

The gathering drew grieving family members, colleagues, and comrades-in-arms, all united in mourning a man described as dedicated and courageous in the service of the nation.

In its statement, the Nigerian Army said the late brigadier-general was accorded full military honours in recognition of his “selfless service and unwavering commitment” to Nigeria’s security.

“Amidst grieving families and fellow comrades, the fallen hero was accorded full military honours in recognition of his selfless service and unwavering commitment to the defence of the nation,” the statement read.

The Army further noted that the sacrifice of Braimah and other fallen soldiers underscores the daily risks undertaken by members of the Armed Forces.

“Their sacrifice serves as a poignant reminder of the heavy price paid daily by members of the Armed Forces to safeguard the peace, unity and security of Nigeria,” it added.

Braimah’s death adds to the growing list of military casualties in Nigeria’s ongoing fight against insurgency in the North-East, a conflict that has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions over the years.

As tributes continue to pour in, many Nigerians have hailed the late brigadier-general as a patriot who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
