The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to urgently reverse its decision on the leadership crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC), warning of potential damage to the commission’s credibility ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Egbeola Wale Martins, IPAC expressed concern over what it described as a premature move by INEC to remove the names of Distinguished Senator David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola from its official portal.
The council cautioned that such action could trigger avoidable political instability and set a dangerous precedent if not carefully handled.
According to IPAC, “the reported removal… appears premature and capable of creating avoidable instability within the polity. If not carefully managed, such actions may set a troubling precedent and undermine confidence in the neutrality of the electoral umpire.”
IPAC stressed that internal party disputes should not be misconstrued as a leadership vacuum, noting that contested leadership structures remain valid until due process determines otherwise.
Beyond the ADC crisis, the council also raised concerns about the timing of INEC’s proposed nationwide voter revalidation exercise, urging the commission to ensure transparency and stakeholder engagement.
The body further condemned the recent killings in Plateau State, calling for urgent action to address the deteriorating security situation.
IPAC concluded by urging INEC to act with caution and fairness in handling political party matters, emphasizing the need to maintain public trust in Nigeria’s electoral process as preparations for the 2027 elections gradually take shape.
