ABUJA — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has firmly dismissed reports of deep divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that the party remains united despite visible grievances among some members.
Speaking on Wednesday after an extensive inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects across Abuja, Wike rejected suggestions of factionalism within the party ahead of its forthcoming convention.
“I don’t know which camp you are talking about now. There is only one PDP,” Wike said, brushing aside concerns about internal splits. “It would be wrong for me to say the other camp. I don’t know whether any other camp exists.”
The former Rivers State governor acknowledged that disagreements are not unusual in political parties but maintained that such differences do not amount to an organized division within the PDP. According to him, the tensions being referenced are largely individual in nature rather than evidence of structured factions.

“Naturally, there are some individuals that may not be happy,” he said. “Some have called to say ‘let bygones be bygones,’ but not a faction. There is only one PDP now.”
On reconciliation efforts, Wike clarified that any ongoing peace moves are informal and personal, rather than the result of negotiations between opposing blocs within the party. His comments come amid growing speculation about internal realignments as the PDP prepares for its next convention.
Addressing concerns about the timing of party activities, the minister emphasized that the convention would proceed as scheduled, noting that the timetable is guided by provisions in the Electoral Act and the requirements of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He stressed that political processes must align with statutory deadlines, particularly with primaries on the horizon.

Beyond party politics, Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of ongoing development projects within the FCT. He commended the progress made across various sites, noting that the administration has maintained strong momentum despite broader economic constraints affecting the country.
Responding to questions about how the FCT Administration has sustained its performance amid funding challenges, Wike pointed to a combination of disciplined financial management and increased Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
“It is not a question of the amount of money. It has to do with commitment,” he said. “You may have all the money in the world, and if you are not committed, it falls onto the same thing.”
The minister also credited the support of President Bola Tinubu as a key factor in the administration’s success, emphasizing that leadership backing has enabled him to deliver on key mandates without excuses.
“When you are in an administration where the boss is giving you support, obviously, you have no reason for failure,” Wike stated.
As political activities intensify ahead of the PDP convention, Wike’s remarks signal a strong attempt to project unity within the party, even as underlying tensions continue to shape internal dynamics. Meanwhile, the FCT Administration appears keen to showcase tangible progress in infrastructure as evidence of effective governance under its watch.
