Enugu, Nigeria — The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South East zone has successfully concluded its zonal congress, ushering in a new eight-member executive through a consensus process, signaling unity and renewed focus ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The congress, held on Wednesday at the newly revamped Hotel Presidential, drew a massive turnout of party leaders, delegates, and faithful from all five South East states.
In a decisive move, Francis Nwifuru tabled a motion for the dissolution of the outgoing zonal executive. The motion, seconded by Patrick Ndubueze, was unanimously adopted, clearing the way for the election of a new executive.
Before proceedings continued, Hope Uzodimma announced that party leaders in the zone had held extensive consultations at the Government House, Enugu, ultimately agreeing to adopt the consensus mode of election, one of the options permitted under the APC constitution.

“Today, in line with Article 20.1 of the Constitution of the APC, both the leadership and stakeholders of our party have agreed that our zonal congress shall be by consensus mode,” Uzodimma stated.
A three-in-one motion, moved by Benjamin Kalu and seconded by Uchenna Ugwu, ratified the outcomes of the ward, local government, and state congresses, adopted the consensus election method, and proposed the new officers for adoption by delegates. The motion was unanimously approved.

Addressing the congress, Peter Mbah hailed the successful completion of ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses, describing them as a testament to the strength, cohesion, and resilience of the APC in the South East.
“Ndi Igbo, our presence here, and the turnout we have witnessed today, is proof that the South East is APC, and APC is the South East. Our congresses have emerged stronger and more united, defying naysayers,” Mbah said.
He further stressed the region’s commitment to the reelection of Bola Tinubu in 2027, commending the President’s reforms for setting Nigeria on a path of economic growth.
The governor also called on party members to sustain unity and cohesion as the party heads to the National Convention in Abuja, emphasizing that the South East APC should remain a model of internal democracy and progressive politics.
The congress attracted a host of dignitaries, including former Senate President Ken Nnamani, APC National Deputy Chairman (South) Emma Eneukwu, serving and former governors, ministers, and legislators from across the zone.
