The wife of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Dr Ogechi Lokpobiri, has received commendation for her commitment to humanitarian service, compassion and efforts to improve the lives of people within and beyond her immediate community.
The commendation was made by the Vice President of Boardwalk Group, Abuja-based real estate developer and philanthropist, Chief Mrs Obiageli Okwubanego, during activities marking the 30th anniversary of Bayelsa State, tagged “Celebrating Legacies.”
The celebration featured the presentation of an Award of Excellence to Senator Lokpobiri by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, in recognition of his contributions and service.
Speaking with journalists in Asokoro, Abuja, Okwubanego described Senator Lokpobiri and his wife as “two perfect persons” whose commitment, she said, is centred on making Nigeria better and positively impacting the lives of people around them.
While applauding the minister for his role in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector and his efforts to project Bayelsa State positively at the federal level, Okwubanego reserved special praise for Dr Ogechi Lokpobiri, describing her as a pillar of strength and an icon of positive impact.
According to her, Dr Ogechi represents the qualities of a supportive, hardworking and productive wife who not only contributes to the success of her husband but also dedicates herself to touching the lives of others.
She likened Dr Ogechi to the biblical woman who builds her home, noting that the popular saying, “behind every successful man there is a woman,” becomes more meaningful when such a woman is caring, productive, hardworking and committed to the wellbeing of others.
Okwubanego stressed that Dr Ogechi’s influence extends beyond her position as the wife of a serving minister, saying her compassion and dedication to humanity have earned her the respect and admiration of people who have encountered her.
She also noted that Senator Lokpobiri’s recognition during the Bayelsa @ 30 celebrations should be viewed within the broader context of the support and partnership of people around him, particularly his wife, whom she described as a dependable pillar.
Okwubanego further called on public officials and their spouses to use their positions, platforms and influence to promote initiatives that positively impact ordinary Nigerians.
She stressed that true leadership should ultimately be measured not only by positions held, but by the lives positively transformed through service and compassion.
