The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to establish a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centre in Ottawa, Canada, beginning in 2027.
The proposed centre is expected to enable eligible Nigerians living in Canada and other parts of North America to sit for the UTME without travelling to Nigeria solely for the examination.
JAMB disclosed the plan following a visit by its Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa.

According to the board, the initiative is part of its broader effort to “take Nigerian tertiary education to the world” and improve access to Nigeria’s university admission process for citizens living abroad.
JAMB said the Ottawa centre would strengthen the connection between Nigerians in the diaspora and Nigeria’s tertiary education system while creating greater opportunities to showcase Nigerian tertiary education internationally.
The board stated:
“The proposed centre will make it easier for Nigerians in the diaspora to sit for the UTME without travelling to Nigeria solely for the examination.”
JAMB added that the planned centre would provide greater access to the UTME for eligible Nigerians across North America and reduce some of the barriers faced by those seeking admission into Nigerian universities and other tertiary institutions.

“For Nigerians in Canada, the UTME is coming closer to home,” the board said.
The initiative is expected to expand JAMB’s examination reach beyond Nigeria and provide Nigerians residing in Canada with a more convenient option to participate in the Nigerian tertiary education admission process.
The Ottawa UTME centre is expected to commence operations in 2027.
