UMUAHIA — A middle-aged man identified as Livingston Nwakanma has allegedly killed his mother, simply identified as Daa Nwaigbe, with a machete in Osaa Ukwu community, Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of the day while the deceased was preparing food in the kitchen.
According to a community source, Nwakanma allegedly entered the kitchen, knocked his mother down and attacked her with a machete, inflicting a fatal injury on her neck.
The source claimed that the suspect had exhibited troubling behaviour for more than four years.

It was gathered that a woman who reportedly witnessed the attack raised the alarm and confronted Nwakanma, questioning why he had attacked his mother.
The alarm reportedly attracted the attention of the deceased’s husband, who rushed to the scene.
However, the suspect had allegedly inflicted a fatal injury on his mother, who collapsed and died at the scene.

The woman’s husband reportedly attempted to intervene, but Nwakanma allegedly tried to attack him as well, forcing him to escape and raise an alarm.
Youths in the community subsequently apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the police.
Confirming the incident, the Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said officers attached to the Eastern Ngwa Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call concerning the incident.
According to Chinaka, police officers arrived at the scene and found the suspect’s mother lying lifeless.
She said a medical professional subsequently confirmed the woman’s death, after which her remains were deposited at a morgue.
Chinaka added that the suspect was rescued by police officers from a mob that was allegedly about to lynch him and taken to a hospital for medical attention.

She said the suspect remained in police custody while investigation into the incident continued.
The police have not disclosed the motive behind the alleged attack.
