KAMPALA, UGANDA — A wave of grief and outrage has swept across Uganda following a horrific attack at a nursery school in Kampala that claimed the lives of four young children.

Police say a man gained access to the Gaba Early Childhood Development Program by posing as a parent before launching a deadly assault inside the facility. According to preliminary reports, the suspect locked the school gate, trapping those inside before carrying out the attack.

The victims, all toddlers aged between two and three years, have been identified as Eteku Gideon (2), Kaise Alungat (2), Ignatius Sserwange (3), and Ryan Odeke (2). Authorities confirmed that all four children were pupils at the same daycare center.

“This is a deeply tragic incident,” said Uganda Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke. “Preliminary findings confirm the loss of four minors. Investigations are ongoing to establish the suspect’s motive, background, and any other circumstances surrounding this heinous crime.”

The suspect was arrested at the scene as furious residents gathered, with some attempting to attack him before police intervened. Officers fired warning shots into the air to disperse the crowd and restore order.

Such acts of violence are rare in Kampala, making the incident particularly shocking for the nation. Parents and community members have been left devastated, with many calling for tighter security measures in schools and daycare centers to prevent similar tragedies.

Authorities say further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
