In a dramatic move that signals a fresh start for his administration, Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has ordered all political appointees in the state to immediately hand over their duties—just 24 hours after beginning his second term in office.
The directive, which has sent shockwaves across the state’s political landscape, was announced in an official circular released on Wednesday by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
The circular, signed by Permanent Secretary Dr. Nwabufor Nwankwo, mandates all affected appointees to transfer responsibilities to Permanent Secretaries. In cases where no Permanent Secretary is available, the most senior civil servant in the respective Ministry, Department, or Agency (MDA) is to take charge.
According to the government, the handover process must be completed before the close of work on the same day, pending the constitution of a new cabinet.
“All political appointees are to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior civil servant in the various MDAs on or before the close of work today, until a new cabinet is constituted,” the circular stated.
The swift decision underscores Governor Soludo’s determination to restructure his government as he embarks on a new term, raising anticipation over the composition of the incoming cabinet and the policy direction of his administration.
Meanwhile, all first-term cabinet members have been summoned to a crucial meeting with the governor scheduled for March 23 at 10 a.m. at the State Executive Council Chambers.
