Iran has declared that it has not requested a ceasefire and sees no reason to engage in negotiations with the United States, a statement that underscores the deepening tensions between the two countries amid the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made the remarks during recent interviews, dismissing claims by U.S. President Donald Trump that Tehran was seeking a deal or exploring diplomatic talks. According to the Iranian diplomat, the country has neither asked for a ceasefire nor initiated any negotiations with Washington.
“We have never asked for a ceasefire, and we have not even asked for negotiations,” Araghchi said, insisting that Tehran currently sees no justification for opening talks with the United States.
The Iranian minister argued that previous experiences with Washington have left Tehran skeptical about the value of dialogue, adding that Iran would continue to defend itself as long as it considers external actions against the country to be aggression.
