Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has described the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as a political “visa” through which many Igbo politicians rose to prominence.
Soludo said it was unfortunate that some politicians who leveraged the platform to achieve political prominence had abandoned the party for what he described as “mushroom political parties”, while wrongly assuming that APGA had become irrelevant.
The governor spoke on Saturday at the headquarters of Ekwusigo Local Government Area in Ozubulu, shortly after commissioning projects executed by the outgoing council chairman, Hon. Chinezie Obi.
Soludo also criticised what he described as the tendency among some people in the South-East to “put all their eggs in one basket” politically and subsequently complain about marginalisation at the federal level.
According to him, the region should be seeking ways to strengthen its relationship with the Federal Government and secure what he described as its “due share” at the centre.
He said this was why, according to him, APGA’s position was to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election, while seeking to retain its dominance in Anambra’s state and National Assembly contests.
The governor maintained that APGA, whose mantra is “Progressives working together”, would support the APC presidential bid while aiming to win all national and state legislative seats in Anambra.
Soludo also pointed to APGA’s performance in the recently concluded local government elections in Anambra, saying the party had won the chairmanship and councillorship positions across the state.
Soludo Commends Outgoing Ekwusigo Chairman
The governor commended the outgoing Ekwusigo council chairman, Chinezie Obi, for what he described as prudent management of resources and the execution of several capital projects.
Among the projects commissioned were roads, CCTV cameras and skill-acquisition centres designed to benefit students and residents of the local government area.
Soludo said the projects demonstrated that local governments could execute meaningful development projects when available resources were properly managed.
He pledged to reward Obi for his performance after leaving office and expressed confidence that the incoming council mayor, Hon. Ifeanyi Onuchukwu, would build on the achievements recorded during Obi’s tenure.
Obi: Projects Reflect My Vision
Earlier, Obi commended Governor Soludo for his leadership and said his administration at the local government level had benefited from the governor’s developmental initiatives.
He said the projects commissioned at the event were a reflection of his vision for Ekwusigo and the determination of his administration to translate available resources into tangible development.
“What you saw here today is a testament to my vision,” Obi said.
The incoming mayor, Onuchukwu, also disclosed that he had already prepared an action plan for his administration.
He said he would commence implementation of his programmes immediately after being sworn into office, in line with the manifesto on which he campaigned.
The event also featured the presentation of Community Service Awards to both the outgoing chairman, Chinezie Obi, and the incoming mayor, Ifeanyi Onuchukwu.
The awards were presented by the Youth Wing of the Anambra State Town Union Council (ASTUC), led by its President-General, Hon. Ken Okoli.
