Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles, delivered a spirited performance on Friday night, securing a 2–1 victory over Iran in an international friendly at the Mardan Sports Complex in Antalya, Türkiye.
The West Africans wasted no time asserting their dominance, taking the lead as early as the sixth minute through Moses Simon. The winger showed composure inside the box, finishing neatly after a well-worked move initiated by Samuel Chukwueze, who provided the assist.
Nigeria maintained control for much of the first half, dictating the pace and creating several attacking opportunities, while Iran struggled to find rhythm against the Super Eagles’ organized setup.
The second half began much like the first, with Nigeria quickly extending their advantage. In the 51st minute, Akor Adams doubled the lead, tapping home from close range after being set up by the in-form Ademola Lookman. The goal underscored Nigeria’s attacking cohesion and clinical edge in front of goal.

Iran, however, responded with renewed urgency and were rewarded in the 67th minute when Mehdi Taremi found the back of the net to reduce the deficit. The goal injected fresh energy into the contest, as the Asian side pushed forward in search of an equaliser.
As the game progressed, Nigeria’s coaching crew opted for fresh legs, introducing Paul Onuachu, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Chidera Ejuke, and Frank Onyeka to maintain intensity and stability. Iran also made several substitutions in a bid to salvage the game, but Nigeria’s defense remained resolute under pressure.

Despite late attempts from Iran, the Super Eagles held on to secure a deserved victory, continuing their preparations with a positive result.
Nigeria will now turn their attention to their next international friendly, where they are set to face the Jordan national team on Tuesday, March 31, as they continue to fine-tune their squad ahead of upcoming competitive fixtures.
