Two officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have been arrested following a shooting incident that left a driver dead in Osogbo.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi.
According to Ojelabi, the incident occurred during a pursuit operation by the Customs officers, who were reportedly chasing vehicles suspected to be carrying tokunbo (foreign-used) cars.
During the chase, the driver of an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla—one of the vehicles being pursued—was allegedly shot by the officers. The victim was rushed to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where a medical doctor later confirmed him dead.

Police authorities said the identity of the deceased driver has not yet been established. His body has since been deposited in a morgue pending identification and further investigation.
Ojelabi disclosed that several items were recovered from the scene of the incident. These include a Beretta pistol with breech number 125024, 11 rounds of 9mm live ammunition, and one expanded 9mm shell.
Other items recovered include two vehicles linked to the incident: a white Toyota Corolla with Lagos registration number AAA 400 GQ and the ash-coloured Toyota Corolla with registration number GFQ 0982, which was allegedly being chased at the time of the shooting.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Gotan, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
The police assured members of the public that anyone found culpable in the incident would be made to face the full weight of the law.
Residents of Osun State have also been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.
The tragic incident has sparked concerns among residents about the conduct of security operatives during enforcement operations, as authorities work to uncover the events that led to the fatal shooting.
